‘Introduction to Circular Economy’

Learning Goals:

Knowledge:

  1. The participants will gain knowledge and begin to understand the concept of circular economy, the recycling idea, and reducing waste.
  2. Renewable energy will become apparent and highlight their significance in the circular economy.
  3. Participants will discover how we can change the economic status by using a system that not only fixes things but keeps them going sustainably.

Skills:

  1. The participants will begin to understand sustainability principles regarding the reuse and regenerate of products.
  2. Watching the video makes the participants think of what could be done to overcome economic and environmental challenges through problem-solving.
  3. Participants will sharpen their critical thinking skills as they compare the old-school economy model with the circular economy model.
  4. Participants will learn to view the economy as a system that can be regenerated and implemented for sustainability.

Responsibilities:

  1. Participants could feel the responsibility of promoting and implementing sustainability and circular economy in their personal and professional lives.
  2. Participants could understand and realize the importance of innovative solutions in building a sustainable economy.

Topic:

Presenting the training, aims, and units. A first contact with the concept of circular economy through video.

Time

1 Hour and 20 minutes

Learning objectives

  1. A clear understanding of the circular economy concept, its principles, and its benefits.
  2. The participants should be able to understand certain concepts, like sustainable product design and how a circular economy helps to restore and renew resources and systems.
  3. Enhance critical thinking in evaluating the environmental, economic, and social implications of transitioning to a circular economy.
  4. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with the other participants and the educator, discussing and asking questions, and sharing insights, perspectives, and potential solutions, challenges, and opportunities, related circular economy.
  5. Innovation and creativity towards circular economy can be enhanced.
  6. Recognition of the importance of collaborating with industries and individuals for the development of circular economy.
  7. The ability to have a meaningful conversation about the concept of circular economy with their colleagues and in their daily lives.
  8. First knowledge about how they can implement circular economy practices in their daily life

Content / Methodology/Evaluation

Procedure:

  1. Explain to the participants the subject of the video and say a few words about the circular economy.
  2. Show the video to the participants.
  3. Ask them a couple of questions regarding circular economy, like if they understand the concept and the benefits.
  4. Have a discussion about that topic with the participants, encouraging all of them to speak their minds.
  5. After the end of the discussion play the video a second time. After the opinions are heard, it is possible to look at the video in a different view.
  6. Ask them again the same question as before, and if they now have any different opinions.
  7. Start another discussion regarding the circular economy in their everyday lives. Encourage them to give you examples of how it can be used in their personal lives.
  8. Encourage the participants to ask questions and before you give your answer, you can let other participants to give their outputs.
  9. Make notes of the examples the participants give.

Methodology:

The teaching approach in this activity is “Visual Learning and Discussion” and focuses on the learning experience by engaging the participants through visual elements, which present information, concepts, and ideas and encourages critical thinking and effective discussion providing different views and opinions.
